I had a very unusual incident this morning that I would like to share with you:
I woke up this morning ready to take Abigail to school. Clothes? Check. Shoes? Check? Hat (because of no shower yet)? Check. So I got my keys, wallet etc. and headed to the door to load up in the van. As I reached the area of the door something occurred. Instantaneously, my body went tense, my senses heightened, I changed my stance and started looking for any signs of trouble. DANGER-MODE was in full effect and I was in total defense/attack readiness.
As instantly as it began, I also knew without doubt that it was over. There was no danger.
This is a very curious thing to have your system react to something, then instantly go back to normal and NOT KNOW what caused it. All of this happened in under a second of time. But I needed to know where the prompting to enter danger-mode had generated from.
About the time these thoughts had a chance process the answer came. It came from the senses that were so very alert now. I smelled Avon's Skin-So-Soft.
Now at this time I can ONLY IMAGINE what is going through your head, so let me explain, lol. Seventeen years ago I entered the US Marine Corps and went to Parris Island for boot camp. A tense place indeed. (hahaha) While we were there, we had to be on constant guard, even in our sleep. Somewhere along the 3 month journey of boot camp, we had Skin-So-Soft sent to us from our family. We did this because the Drill Instructors told us to. (see I still capitalize their title, lol)
Apparently a mixture of Skin-So-Soft and rubbing alcohol makes quite a decent bug repellent. I don't remember actually getting to use this, but the Drill Instructors did. Imagine that. The smell however of this mixture is quite memorable and we smelled it often, as the DIs didn't like getting bit by the sand fleas, for which, I don't blame them.
The point of this story is this: The smell of this mixture INSTANTLY took me back to a MODE I lived in 17 years ago.
We should get to know the smell of the Word of God so well, that a whiff of the stench of un-Godliness should raise our faith shield QUICKLY and with ALL MIGHT. If we dabble back in forth in Godliness and un-Godliness or let experience & environment REIGN OVER the Word, we can get confused as to what we actually need to defend and fight off.
It would serve us very well to train ourselves to believe in NOTHING outside of the Word of God. Let God show you in the bible where the dividing line is. Let Him show you the blessing HE GIVES so you can believe and build up your faith shield. That way when the stench of untruth comes rolling your way, you can instantly enter DANGER-MODE, put the danger behind you, and move on in peace and the blessing.
There is a common attitude no matter where you go or who you talk to right now. Everyone is quite aware of the economic situation, not only in this country, but in the whole world right now. People miserable in their jobs want to quit but are too scared to. Others getting laid off are wishing they still had the job they so desperately hated last week. People thankful for the drop in gas prices yet still fearful of spending too much this Christmas b/c “you never know what tomorrow brings.” Suicides & illnesses are up, donations are down. Why?! Because people don’t truly believe:
God is stronger than duct tape!
Duct tape Nicole?! Seriously!? What does duct tape have to do with God? Well first the obvious – James 1:17 – “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above…” We all know, Duct tape is goooood! If someone breaks a window in his car, you are liable to see him driving around with a duct tape window. You need to hold something together – duct tape it. You need to make something stronger – duct tape. I have even seen bags, folders & book covers made out of duct tape. There are books available with 101 things to do or make with duct tape! Seriously, we have a lot of faith in duct tape. Even my 6 year old knows that you can turn to duct tape! There’s no second guessing, you just trust in the old reliable. You don’t turn to Elmer’s glue or scotch tape, you turn to what you KNOW works.
The question is though, how many of us will turn to God as quickly? The answer – not many. How do I know? Read the paper, watch the news, look at the stock market. Our actions speak loud & clear. If we are sick, broke financially, hurting in any way – many will often first turn to anything except God: medicines, loans, the shoulder of a friend. And most often, we still end up singing, “Gloom, despair & agony on me. Deep dark depression, excessive misery. If it weren’t for bad luck, I’d have no luck at all. Gloom, despair & agony on me!” Then when we do finally think about turning to God, it’s often whining to Him or blaming Him, “Oooh Lawd! Why Lord why?!” Or last but not least, my personal most despised statement, “well at least we know that God has a purpose in all this.” AAGGHHHHH!! Could you be any more wrong!?! God’s plan is crystal clear: Pull out your Bible and read for yourself, Jeremiah 29:11-14, 11 For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. 12 In those days when you pray, I will listen. 13 If you look for me wholeheartedly, you will find me. 14 I will be found by you,” says the Lord. “I will end your captivity and restore your fortunes.
What part of that scripture says that God wants you to suffer before He can bless you? NONE! The ONLY thing that is required of us is to pray & seek Him. That’s it!!!! He will restore fortunes and end captivity. Captive to what? Well, anything that isn’t of Him. Sickness – be it physical, mental, emotional or spiritual. Captive to a job you are not supposed to be in. Captive to a failing marriage that could be healed & strengthened if only you’d turn to Him instead of turning against each other. Captive in any way that is not His ways. He can & WILL hear you if you will only cry out to Him. He WILL heal your body, mind, heart, marriage, pocketbooks. He will make them stronger than ever before.
Duct tape is great. It’s fun to play with, it really is reliable for so many different uses. It’s easy to see why so many people keep it stocked in their homes, shops, work, some even in their cars. But the fact remains, there are things that duct tape can’t do. Jesus Christ however, is quite the opposite. There is nothing He can’t do IF we will put our faith in Him. Duct tape runs out. You have to go to the store & buy more. But Jesus Christ doesn’t ‘run out’. In fact we know that He says, “I will NEVER leave you nor forsake you.” (Hebrews 13:5) You see, it’s not God that has this economic situation in a downward spiral. It’s not part of His plan. He never left this country, our schools, our homes, our hearts – we kicked Him out & turned our backs on Him. He WANTS to help us, we just have to let Him.
It’s Christmas time folks. A time of joy, peace, hope, celebration. It’s not a time to stress or fear. It’s not about buying a gift. The ONLY gift that matters at Christmas (or any time of year for that matter) is the ONE gift that gave it all – God gave His Son to us. A Son to be our Savior. A Savior who already took on every aspect of sin – sickness, lack, pain, etc. so that we wouldn’t have to. So put down the broken life you are living. Stop turning to supplements like duct tape to fix your problems. Turn to God. Give Him the chance to fix it all. I guarantee, if you give Him your heart and your life, you will have the best Christmas you’ve ever had.
When times are tough... When there seems to be NO way out... When the deck is stacked against you... When the enemy seems to have more resources than you...
Even if everything is going well, there is MORE to get EXCITED ABOUT!
Recently there has been much conversation about the sanctity of marriage. From the question of legality of homosexual marriage, to simple rights of homosexual partners at times of crisis, this issue has repercussions for all people heterosexual AND homosexual.
God loves each of us the same, very sinful or not, Christian or not, gay or straight. My father and mother will always love me, but that never has meant that they would give me an OK to do the wrong things. The great thing is, God is always there with love to help you, at the same place where humans drop the ball OFTEN.
God has ordained governments to govern the people to the best of their ability. As a standard, in the Old Testament the ruler of the time either chose to go with God's ways, which helped the people as a whole to the utmost, or the ruler chose to take a path away from the ways of God, and the people suffered. Most times, this wasn't a suffering brought on by the wrath of God as much as it was reaping the bad spiritual seed that had been planted.
One of satan's biggest deceptions is to break large immoralities down into bite size pieces. By doing this, the fight for morality isn't as hard. Think of breaking down a wall. Removing one brick is easier than knocking down the whole wall that has plenty of support and foundations. But... one person, removing one brick at a time.... as long as that person doesn't stop, the wall WILL fall. The only way to avoid collapse of moral walls is to stop the removal of the smallest portions of the wall. Many times for Americans, this ability is available to us through our voting.
This video shows how the small bricks removed - added up. It was part of an email that I received multiple times and it shows the repercussions of non-action on the part of people, especially at the voting booths. I included the original email below for your viewing, especially for citizens around California.
What we have to do as Christians AND non-Christians is concern ourselves with the betterment of the whole. That is love. No matter if you believe in Jesus Christ or not, He had some pretty good ideas that benefit the whole of humanity. As a general rule, following those things result in good things for all people.
I have found that voting for people that support the things of God (sanctity of marriage, pro-life, etc.) over things that just benefit me personally, pays dividends. Even if the politician is promising me money, health, stress-free living, etc., if the things of God are more esteemed in another party, I'd be better off, going with the person that will line up the most with GOD's ways.

One of the interesting points to think about is the un-Godly view of separation of church & state. Using that side of logic, look for the re-joining
of 'un-Godly religion' to state matters. The children in the video are
forced into a different kind of religion, which supports un-Godliness.
If there should be seperation of church and state, then shouldn't it
also extend in the opposite direction as well? Just because it isn't named, doesn't mean it's not religion.

California.
As California goes, in many ways, so goes the nation. A major prayer
leader from Egypt spoke to me and said that he had been weeping over
California because he knew that if this law is not reversed by the vote
of Californians on November 4, a spirit will spread across the world that
will be stronger than Islam. It is a spirit of lawlessness, and that
spirit will affect every nation. He said, "Lou, please call the
whole world to pray for California on November 1 through God TV."
Mybrothers and sisters, many of my friends are saying that TheCall
California will be the most significant Call we have ever done. It is not
just about California it is about the whole nation.
I am appealing to you who have stood by TheCall these years to drop
everything to come to Qualcomm Stadium and join this mighty prayer battle
that is going on. Nehemiah, in a time of spiritual warfare said, "We
are widely divided along this wall, when you hear the sound of the
trumpet, gather to me there, and there the Lord will fight for us."
There are certain spiritual powers of darkness that will not be
restrained unless we are willing to gather. God promises if we will do
that, He will fight for us. "This kind does not come out but by
prayer and fasting."
Please do not skip over this email lightly right now. Please, watch the video now and be stirred

For 40 days, there will be two strategic prayer strikes coordinated on

Bryan and I have a friend (whaat!?! A friend? No way!). For real!! Okay, anyway! Bryan and I really do have a friend. We’ll call him Harry. (real original huh Harry?!) Anyone who knows Harry knows that Harry is a trip. He’s one of those guys who, what you see is what you get. It doesn’t matter who you are, he is what he is. He’s got that sarcastic wit and a back pocket full of stories that when combined, will have you rolling all afternoon. And yet, despite his sarcasm, he has a respect for people that manifests in the life he lives. He is charismatic yet laid back. He just draws people to him. Why?! Because he is Harry. People appreciate his genuineness. They don’t have to worry about weeding through the façade and figuring out what he is really trying to say or what his motives are. He’s already told you. Well that’s great Nicole. You have a friend. He’s great. I’m happy for you. So what’s your point? Well, I’m glad you asked.
My point is that people appreciate a genuine personality. We love people who are themselves around us & don’t act one way with us but are completely different with someone else. God is no different. Harry is often telling us something that God told him or a conversation they’ve had and even sometimes, he’ll tell us how God will laugh at him when he says something stupid to God. Now unruffle your religious feathers. He does speak to us through His Holy Spirit. God does have a personality. He does laugh. How do I know? Well, because He tells us in His word. Genesis 1:26 says, “And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness”. This tells us that we can look in the mirror and see a part of God. We can listen to ourselves and hear part of His personality. He is All in all! There is nothing good that we have that didn’t come from Him. That includes a good personality.
So back to Harry. I was thinking about him this morning and about his relationship with God. And I was thinking about this revival going on in Florida and how so many lives are being touched. Then I asked God, why is it that Harry, those people at the revival and some of us find it easier to get close to You, while others seem to struggle to know who You really are. That is when He told me that all it takes is for us to “Get Real”! We have to stop thinking that God is so heavenly that He is untouchable by earthlings. One thing that separates God from other man-made gods, is that He is obtainable. We can reach out to Him and He IS there waiting to take us in His arms, just like any good daddy would do. He WANTS to have a relationship with us. He wants to talk to us. The problem is that we often think He doesn’t speak English. We think that we have to pray in some King James-like language or all holy and reverent. Well think of it this way: If your child came to you and said, “Oh great parental, thou art great amongst humankind. Mayest mine friends and I goest to the beckoning mall?” You’d think they’d been sniffing the Elmer’s at school. Or how about this prayer: “Oh all governing parental figure, thou clutched thee to thy breast as a babe. Whenest I hungered, thou fed me. Whenest I thirsted, thou made kool-aid with thine own hands. But now all knowing parent, if thou lovest me, willst thou help me whilst I doest thine homework?” You’re response would probably be, “What? Are you practicing for MacBeth or something?” It sounds funny for our kids to do that. Instead, we want our kids to talk to us, not to act like we are untouchable and hard. We are their parents. We comforted them as a baby & now is no different, we want to be there for them. We want them to talk to us the way they talk to their friends. I remember when I was growing up, my friends loved my mama. They thought that I was the luckiest girl because my mama was so cool. They couldn’t relate to the way she and I would just talk about anything. Now don’t get me wrong, I think my mama is absolutely wonderful & I know that I am blessed to be her child. However, my friends had great moms too. The difference was that they separated themselves from their mothers. They saw her as an authority figure and that was it. A lot of them now, since they’ve grown up, have realized that she is so much more. That is great for them now, but look at the time they wasted. The years that their mothers longed for them to truly know her love for them and understand who she really is. This is how God is. He loves Harry beyond words. He loves these people at the revival. But He also adores YOU! He just wants you to be real so that you can really get to know Him.
But Nicole, He’s God. He’s Holy. He doesn’t deal with life the way we do. Beg your pardon?
He is the one, alone on the mountain facing temptation. (Matthew 4:1-11) He is a friend who mourns the death of a brother. (John 11:32-36) He is the one hurting as the world has turned their back on Him. (Gen. 6:5; Matt. 26:67) He is the person betrayed by one of His closest friends. (Luke 22:47) He is the person who is looking for an easier path. (Matthew 26:37-39) He is someone who just wants to help others. (See entire Bible)
God does understand you. He became flesh and experienced life with all of it’s joys and all it’s sufferings, then He experienced an excruciating death. He experienced pain, both emotional and physical, far greater than any of us will ever know. Therefore, we cannot go through one thing in this life that He cannot relate to and guide us through. We can go to Him with anything, speaking our own language, and just talk to Him about it. Good or bad, He just wants you to talk to Him. You don’t have to wait for death & hope that you have lived a life good enough to maybe meet Him one day. You can know and talk to God today. He will talk to you, grieve with you, laugh with you and even laugh at you! God loves us enough, that even in our misunderstanding of Him, He will still reach out to us and bless us. But if you want to have a complete relationship with Him, you have to Get Real!!
